Now that we are finished with chapter four, it's time to make bold
predictions. What do you see happening in this novel and WHY? What do
you see happening to Taylor, Lou Ann, Mattie, and Turtle? Be sure you
base your predictions on textual evidence from the novel. Lastly, once
again, be thoughtful and reflective.
I see Mattie somehow helping out Turtle. Since she seems to be helping immigrants, I feel like she's going to take in Turtle, or maybe just give Taylor a hand. I also feel like Taylor and Turtle's relationship is going to grow. Even though Taylor doesn't want Turtle, she still cares for her.I feel like Taylor actually does enjoy having Turtle's presence. She had company with her on the long drive to Arizona, and now she has more of a reason to keep going. Turtle is her motivation. As for Lou Ann, I think she's going to learn more about being independent and making choices for herself. Everybody in Lou Ann's life is very controlling. It's because of them why she has trouble making choices and doing things on her own. I feel that overall, every character in the book is going to discover something new about themselves and use it to better their lives.
ReplyDeleteSo far from what I've read in the last four chapters I see that all the characters are single and independent besides Turtle. Lou Ann, Taylor, and Mattie are all independent characters with no support system besides the fact that Taylor has her mother. Mattie owns and runs a shop on her own and Lou Ann has a child now with no support system since her husband left her for good.
ReplyDeleteI think Taylor will soon have a future set for herself with the help of Mattie since she found a job at Burger Derby towards the end of Chapter 3. She will work their for a while to raise enough money hopefully to get a even better job. She will mostly rely on Mattie so that Turtle can have a good life since she is good with kids. She will also rely on Sandi who also has a kid. She is going to have a better life in Tucson as time goes by.Taylor and Turtle will soon get to know each other as Turtle grows up and tells her story of her life to Taylor.
Lou Ann however, I think will not be as successful in life and or go that far in life. She has no support system since her husband Angel left her behind. Taylor does have a support system with Mattie who she can rely on. Lou Ann also seems really puzzled and lost with her life as she doesn't know really what to do. She doesn't seem to like Tucson as much and I predict she will move in with her mother Ivy back in Kentucky as mentioned in Chapter 4 as she says its feels different at home with no one around but me. Also the fact when she opens her window she doesn't see Kentucky anywhere.
I like how you predict the change in characters instead of what will actually happen.
DeleteI always really like how your blogs are really detailed. I also think that your predictions could be accurate and actually happened.I also believe that Lou Ann will go to Kentucky, but I think she will stop at Jesus is Used Tires and meet Taylor and Mattie.
DeleteI like how you use good evidence to back up your thoughts and opinions, and how you use every aspect of each character rather then focusing in one direction.
DeleteSince Taylor likes the environment and scenery of Arizona, she'll stay there for a while until she is completely settled and knows what she wants to do next. In the mean time, she'll take Turtle and both of them will stay with Mattie. Mattie will help take care of Turtle while Taylor is out working and finding different ways to get money. Mattie will be stressed out for putting so much on herself since she has immigrants to deal with too. Once Taylor is back on track and has a good idea of what she wants to do for herself and her child, then she'll thrive and be on the right path to success.
ReplyDeleteLou Ann, however, won't be taking that same path. After her mother and grandmother leave from a visit, she's lonely and feels like she has no support or help around the house. Being a single mother can be tough, and when Angel comes back, the two act like complete strangers. He doesn't even bother to acknowledge the fact that he has a baby and he needs to take care of him. I think that Lou Ann won't really get anywhere in life especially at this point, where she has no one but herself to determine her future.
I liked this one because you went into detail about how their lives will change for better or worse
DeleteI think that in the story, now that we have a small clear idea of the lives of Taylor and Lou Ann, we will soon be reading about them meeting each other. I think that since they will be meeting each other in Arizona because Taylor might want to stay for a while since she has Mattie with her.
ReplyDeleteI think that with Taylor, she will stay with Mattie and will continue to take care of Turtle. Taylor probably will try finding a job in return for favors that Mattie might do for her and she will be earning money for herself too. It's possible that Taylor might want to continue to drive further away from Kentucky on her journey of being independent. She will continue to grow as a person and maybe even learn things from Turtle. I think that for Lou Ann, if Taylor and Lou Ann meet, then Mattie can also act as a motherly support towards her. Lou Ann can probably be assisted on taking care of her child as well. It's also possible for Lou Ann to grow as a stronger, independent, and confident person. As for Mattie, I see her as being a balance or support system in Taylor, Lou Ann, and Turtle's life. I think that somehow, Mattie has the chance of getting caught for what she is doing with hiding/taking care of the immigrants in her house. Lastly, I think Turtle will begin growing up with this "family." I think that Turtle and Taylor's relationship will continue to grow. Turtle was also be supported by Taylor, Mattie, and maybe even Lou Ann.
I like your response because you included Mattie within both of how you predict what would happen with Taylor and Lou Ann.
DeleteSomehow, I see as if Lou Ann's side of the story is being told by Taylor since it is shown in 3rd person mode. Lou Ann's experiences are related somewhat to those of Taylor's experiences. The biggest one is the fact that both Lou Ann and Taylor have a child to take care of them and not let them out of their sight.
ReplyDeleteI think that Taylor will continue to see Mattie to get paid while still considering the job Sandi was working at. Taylor may also take Sandi's advice on putting Turtle in the daycare at the mall. Maybe at some point in the story, Lou Ann and Taylor will meet in the mall and share their experiences with each other and the people they meet. I also think Turtle will begin to speak at some point, or find a way to communicate with Taylor in the story and maybe get along with Dwayne Ray. Finnaly, Mattie may leave Taylor at some point in the story to escape her place to see the world, and could be lying to Taylor about everything she told her.
I see this novel creating the main characters into something they set out to become. For example, Taylor wants to become more independent, but obviously life had more plans than that. Having Turtle at her side makes her more motivated to start new things, and end them strong and with a purpose. Taylor now knows what is the right choice, wrong choice, and who are the right people and who are the wrong. Since Turtle is also in the picture, she thinks about two people's perspectives.
ReplyDeleteOn the other hand, Lou Ann is very held down. Everyone in her life gives her very negative feed-back and tries to help her, but doesn't know exactly how. For example, her mother wanted her to come back and live with her, but Lou Ann is too embarrassed to live back at home with her mother, and wants to become more courageous. Unfortunately, she has no backbone and cannot support herself without needing to lean on someone-- even if they are a negative support system.
I believe what the author is trying to do, is show two similar scenarios, but show one story appear harder than another. Since Taylor has ended in Tuscon where Mattie and Lou Ann live, their lives will soon intertwine. I think Mattie will end up helping Lou Ann as well, since Angel is pretty much out of the picture. I also think when Lou Ann and Taylor meet, Taylor will teach Lou Ann how to become an independent person and will show her how to not have to rely on a man. Mattie will show the two women how to become good mothers, and she might even get them in on the "Mexican Salvation" job her and the priest run.
ReplyDeleteI think all of the characters are going to help each other in some way. For example, Lou Ann still hasn't shown any sign of becoming more positive and independent. I think Taylor is going to befriend Lou Ann and become a role model for her. Mattie may be a support system for Taylor and maybe she will want to adopt Turtle but I don't think Taylor will want to get rid of Turtle because she is her motivation for success at this point. Maybe Dwayne Ray will be a motivation factor for Lou Ann but I doubt it since she hasn't really been thinking about her child very much and has been focussed more on her own feelings. I think Taylor will be successful because she has shown that she has the will power to do so while I don't think Mattie will be too successful and happy even with Taylor as a role model because she hasn't really shown any motivation. All these characters may form such great friendships and bonds that they will become like a family full of positivity and support.
ReplyDeleteI like how you evaluated each character based on their qualities and traits, and especially how you think the story will turn out because of that.
DeleteTaylor: For Taylor I feel like her and turtle are going to become a family. Taylor is truly going to choose to adopt turtle and I also feel that something negative is going to happen. That maybe turtle might be taken away for a while from Taylor because there are too many happy things going on. Maybe Turtle gets lost in the mall or someone picks up the wrong child or they do not believe that turtle belongs to Taylor. I also predict that Taylor is going to discover what she truly wants in life and gets a job. I also believe that the character Taylor learns more of her responsibilities that she has to think of 2 people not just her self. She also might move in into her mom before running in to Taylor but staying at her moms house might force her to stand up for herself and her baby if her mom says rude remarks.
ReplyDeleteLou Ann: I predict that Lou Ann will become a much stronger character and learns how to stand up to herself. I feel that Taylor with be the support system she never had.
Mattie: I see Mattie getting in trouble for helping the immigrants in the future. The police already came to her house once and she got lucky. I also see her playing a big part in both Turtle and Taylor life. Maybe she will help Taylor out with turtle and maybe thy will find the truth about the bruise on turtle or why she is not talking yet. I also feel like Mattie will help babysit turtle and maybe teach turtle. Mattie with also help Taylor discover who or what she truly wants in life.
Turtle: I see Turtle being a inspiration and motivation for Taylor. I think Turtle is a motivation because it is motivating her to do more in life and to also get a job. Turtle can also be a inspiration when we find out her story maybe her story can open more doors in both of there lives. Maybe Turtle story can push Taylor to a place she truly wants to stay.
I also predict that the two characters will teach each other what they are lacking in. Since Taylor is an independent person that has lots of positivity she will show Lou Ann positivity something she is lacking and fill in her empty holes. They will learn from each other mistake and help each other raise their own children.
This is a good response because not only are the predictions thorough and well thought-out, they are also organized and are easy for me to understand.
DeleteI like how this response has it's own detailed way of describing the future of the most important characters. This response shows how each character throughout the book will grow in a positive way. Taylor and Turtle helping each other out, Mattie helping immigrants, and Lou Ann standing up to others, all show them growing and getting better personalities.
DeleteFor what has been going on throughout the novel of the book, I believe that Taylor could possibly get even the highest amount of help for being a caretaker for Turtle that she knows exactly all because of the support from her mother, teacher, and the help from Mattie. Taylor is going to have almost the good motherhood experience when everyone she usually meets are usually people who help her so that she'll go on out and make that new life she's been wanting to make.
ReplyDeleteLou Ann, that I can imagine, could be more assertive in her development throughout the story. Since Lou Ann was almost surrounding by Angel and the people around where she lived, I think she might change with having to be a different person from remembering what she shouldn't do before. Lou Ann also might actually gain the support from either Lou Ann or Mattie if they ever meet.
Mattie I feel like she hasn't been explained too much within the 3rd chapter of the story, but I could see her as a person that gives all the amount of assistance for the other two characters. Since she helped Taylor give care for Turtle and give her the positivity of having a child, she would be the person who would make Lou Ann replace her negativity.
When Angel threw that baptismal water down the drain, I thought that it would be that Last Straw for Lou Ann. I predict that she realizes that she wants nothing to do with him, and leaves to live with Ivy and Logan in Kentucky. When Lou Ann is halfway into Kentucky, I think that she is going to need new tires and stops at Jesus is Lord Used Tires shop. There she will meet Taylor, Mattie, and Turtle. After their meeting, I predict that Taylor and Lou Ann with create a bond based off of their similar situations and become one huge family (Taylor, Lou Ann, Turtle, and Dwayne). After they make this family, I think that they could also take comfort in Mattie because she can provide with care, shelter, and other necessities. Mattie will turn into another support system for the four of them. I predict that together, they can learn from their mistakes and improve their flaws to become more positive and better parents to their children or to the people they take care of.
ReplyDeleteI like your response because you actually make a bold prediction about exactly what you think will happen in the story and it seems the most likely thing to happen.
DeleteI agree with your response and I also like how you showed examples in the book. From your predictions i learned other things within the characters that i would have never thought of.
DeleteJust coming a few chapters into this story, I could already see that the main protagonists, being Taylor and Lou Anne, share common characteristics, as wells as differing qualities that will determine how this story will turn out. Both characters show independence in their beliefs, especially since both have departed from their families/home to live their own lives, and both have some responsibility of a type of child that represent their responsibility for their respective kid. Making an assumption, I believe that both will end up meeting each other, sharing each other's problems and I think that Turtle and Dwayne will be friends.
ReplyDeleteTying in how Taylor and Lou Anne become friends, I think that Lou Anne will eventually be able to meet Mattie through Taylor, and they would all become friends. Also incorporating about the fact that Mattie helps smuggle illegal immigrants into America (Based on Mr. Spinelli's Spoiler), I predict that Taylor and Lou Anne will help Mattie in her efforts to help illegal immigrants. I believe Turtle, on the other hand, will eventually play a key role as to how Lou Anne and Taylor prioritize their responsibilities.
I agree with this prediction because it recognizes a lot of similarities and differences in taylor and lou ann's situations. Also it seems like it would be a logical way for the story to turn out.
DeleteI find out Taylor becomes more mature after she meet Turtle and Mattie. Turtle makes Taylor felt the responsibility of being a mother, and Mattie gives she encouragements. Basically, Taylor's future changed by the people around her. Thus she should got more ordeals to find the way to survive in this world correctly, which is no one can become unbeatable without a support system. Even she understands a little bit of this but still not enough.
ReplyDeleteFor Turtle I think she is the most misfortune person in this novel. Because everyone in this book is trying to find a way to escape or to face their life. However she is just starts her life with a bad beginning. She is the only person who cannot get away from the world. I think she will follow Taylor till the end because she is actually the character who experienced the whole story.
I feel Mattie is already found her way to deal with life. She is really positive and kind, is always being nice to everyone that she meets. So her story won't continue too long, since she is a good example for the other characters in this novel.
Lou Ann is a girl who really seeming like Taylor, even though their characteristic are different they still have similarities. So I think she will follow Taylor to the end as well
The main characters in this novel have a lot of similarities and differences, I predict from what I read so far that they are all somehow going to connect and have impacts on each other's lives. I think that Lou Ann and Taylor are going to met somehow, and Taylor is going to introduce her to Mattie. From there I think that are all going to play a big role in each other's lives, especially Lou Ann and Taylor they are in very similar situations, and I think they will be able to relate. Also I have a very strong feeling that Mattie is going to continue to act as a motherly figure to Taylor and Turtle and maybe edventually help Lou Ann and her baby.
ReplyDeleteMattie puts others before herself and likes to help people so I think she is going to be a big part in Lou Ann's life and help her and her baby with food and shelter plus being there for the emotional/mental part of things. Lou Ann seems to becoming a stronger and more independent person, so I predict that she is going to make Angel leave again. On the other side of things, Taylor is becoming more determined to provide a better life for herself and Turtle. I think that Turtle is having a big impact on Taylor's life and is going to become a even bigger the inspiration for Taylor to keep moving forward. Since Lou Ann, Taylor, Mattie, and Turtle will be able to help each other in a lot of ways to get on the right path again.
I predict all of this is going to happen because Mattie, Lou Ann, Taylor, and Turtle need people in their life. They all need to have a support system that they are currently missing to accomplish what they personally want to accomplish, so I think having each other with make their lives a lot easier. Also even though they might be a lot different, their situations are similar, which makes it easier because they relate to one another. Together they can learn from their own mistakes, stand up for themselves and each other, and become a better, more positive person. I think they are all going to become each other's missing pieces.
I really liked this comment because it really describes what she thinks will happen and explains her own perspective thoroughly.
DeleteAll of them need each other. I definitely agree that they are each others support system. I also do think that Mattie is going to play a big role in Turtle's life because she's so motherly, and I do think that Turtle is a big motivation for Taylor.
DeleteI like this comment because it gives us good predictions to think about. It seems very realistic that all these things could be happening in the later chapters. I also think that this comment is very detailed, clear, and straight to the point!
DeleteI agree with this prediction. I think Taylor and Lou Ann will connect and will be able to help each other through motherhood. I also believe Mattie with continue to help Taylor and will help Lou Ann
DeleteI see Taylor and Turtle will have a growing relationship that will last throughout the novel. Mattie will be the grandmother of Turtle and will try to help Taylor and Turtle whenever possible. With the help of Mattie, Taylor and Turtle will have a good life, one that is better than Kentucky or being abused, in Tucson.
ReplyDeleteAs for Lou Ann, I feel that she will learn to be more brave and speak what's on her mind; rather than letting things happen. Lou Ann will have a tougher time doing this though because she is so passive. She has been growing like this ever since because of the jackknife that she got as a kid, she always drew herself a "protective" circle around her. Lou Ann is going to need this bravery to raise her child, otherwise, the child will end up passive like her.
I believe that Taylor and Turtle will settle down in Tucson. I think that even though Taylor is the lone parent of Turtle, Mattie will help as sort of a grandmother like figure. They've finally gotten away from the abuse and the hatred, now she has made it to her new home.
ReplyDeleteI think that Lou Ann's personality will change because of Dwayne Roy. In order to care for a child you need to be courageous and understanding, and I don't think that Lou Ann has reached those qualities yet. She will either fold under the pressure or she will rise up to the occasion. I think she will stand up and be a strong independent woman, and will stop getting stepped on by adversary's
I feel that Taylor and Turtle will stay with Mattie for a while longer until Taylor gets on her feet. Taylor will learn a lot of positive things from Mattie and Mattie will probably end up being Taylor's role model. I think Taylor will eventually find out Mattie's secret and may embrace how Mattie is taking care of immigrants. Maybe Taylor will help Mattie in her mission to help immigrants.
ReplyDeleteFor Lou Ann, I feel that her state of lonlieness and unwillingness to go out to the world and make something out of her life will slowly change with the help of her child Dwayne Roy. Dwayne Roy will help strengthen her mind and help get rid of her lack of responsibility of her life and will help make her a better person. The act of taking care of a child will take a lot of responsibility for Lou Ann and Dwayne Roy will help Lou Ann grow into a stronger person.
i agree with what you think will happen, i feel like that later on Lou Ann will be more responsible and independent, and i think that all three of them will be together and start something that no one else have in that period of time in the role of women.
